Can I drive with the engine light on?
With a steady amber light you can usually reach the garage driving gently; with a flashing or red light, stop the car. Either way, the sooner it is diagnosed, the cheaper the repair tends to be.
A real example of why the code is not enough: the classic "lean mixture" error. It might be the lambda sensor, yes; but also a cracked two-euro intake hose. Changing the sensor without checking the intake means paying for an expensive part and keeping the warning light. Our diagnosis always includes physically checking the suspect. If the result points to emissions, we continue through the exhaust system; if it points to power supply, through automotive electrics.

Yes: we log data while driving and analyse the ECU’s freeze frames from the moment of failure. Intermittents take patience, but they get caught.
