EGR valve replacement in Barcelona

When the electric motor is burnt out, the position sensor no longer responds or the seat no longer seals, no amount of cleaning will save the valve: it is time to fit a new EGR, adapt it with the diagnostic machine and verify its full cycle.

At Tallers Marathon, Carrer del Vallès 47 in Sant Andreu, we replace EGR valves for drivers from La Sagrera, Navas, Bon Pastor and Trinitat Vella — with a fixed, free quote before we start and a written warranty when we finish.

When is cleaning not enough?

Cleaning rescues dirty valves, not broken ones: if the mechanism is worn out, replacement is the only lasting repair. These are the typical scenarios where we recommend a new valve:

  • Burnt-out electric motor or chewed gearsThe valve will not move even when it is spotless.
  • Position sensor with no signal, or an erratic oneThe ECU cannot tell where the plate is and logs a permanent fault.
  • Bent stem or deformed seatThe valve no longer seals and recirculates gases when it should not.
  • Cracked body or coolant leaksOn cooled EGR units, an internal leak condemns the assembly.
  • Quick relapse after a proper cleanIf it fails again soon after, mechanical wear is behind it.

Not sure which case your car is in? On our EGR valve faults page we explain how we settle it by measuring. And if the valve is healthy but dirty, the sensible option is cleaning and decarbonising.

Original part or OEM-quality equivalent?

We always fit a new part: the carmaker’s original or an equivalent from the original-equipment manufacturer — your choice once you have seen the fixed quote. Never used valves from breakers: on a component that handles exhaust gases at high temperature, that saving gets paid for twice.

Many “equivalent” valves come off the same production line as the part carrying the carmaker’s logo; when both options exist we lay them out with their lead time and warranty, and we match the exact reference by VIN so engine variants cannot catch us out. Whatever you decide, the fitted part is itemised on the invoice and covered in writing.

How we do the replacement, step by step

  1. Diagnosis with live data and an actuator test to confirm the valve really is worn out.
  2. Fixed, free quote with the part option you prefer.
  3. Exact reference located by VIN.
  4. Removal of the old valve; on some engines the intake manifold has to come off too.
  5. Cleaning of the adjacent ducts so the new valve does not inherit the old one’s carbon.
  6. Fitting with new gaskets and bolts, torqued to the manufacturer’s specification.
  7. Valve adaptation and fault-code clearing with the diagnostic machine.
  8. Dynamic test, verifying the full opening and closing cycle cold and hot.

Adaptation and fault clearing: the other half of the job

On most modern engines, bolting on the new valve is not enough: the ECU has to learn its opening and closing stops. Without that basic setting, the EGR runs out of range and the warning light returns within a few kilometres — with a brand-new part fitted.

That is why we close every replacement with the diagnostic machine: valve adaptation, clearing of stored codes and a live-data check that actual recirculation tracks the commanded value. If the fault had been pushing soot into the intake for a while, we may suggest completing the job with an engine decarbonising; the general EGR valve guide gives you the full picture of the system. Frequently asked questions

How do you know it needs replacing rather than cleaning?

With the actuator test and the position-sensor reading: if a clean valve still cannot complete its travel, or the signal is erratic, the mechanism is worn out and a clean would be money down the drain.

Is the new valve original or compatible?

We offer both options when they exist: the carmaker’s original or an equivalent from the original-equipment manufacturer. Always a new part, matched by VIN and itemised in the fixed quote.

How long does an EGR valve replacement take?

Usually between half a day and a full workshop day. On engines where the valve sits behind the intake manifold, the extra removal lengthens the job.

Does the new valve need programming?

Yes. Adaptation with the diagnostic machine — the basic setting of the stops — and fault clearing are part of the job; skip that step and the light comes back even with a new part.

Can I keep driving while I decide?

In limp mode the car protects itself by limiting power, but it uses more fuel and keeps fouling the intake and the particulate filter. The longer it drags on, the higher the risk of a more expensive repair.

What warranty does the replacement carry?

A written warranty covering both the part and the labour, with the adaptation documented in the diagnostic report we hand you.
