Air conditioning regas in Barcelona
It is not "topping up gas": it is recovering the refrigerant, pulling a vacuum, testing for leaks and charging the exact amount your vehicle specifies. That way the A/C cools like day one and lasts for years.
What does this service include at Tallers Marathon?
Gas recovery, vacuum and leak test, charge with the exact amount and a performance check.
- Recovery and vacuumRemaining gas extracted; moisture and air removed from the circuit.
- Leak testIf the circuit leaks, we tell you before charging — not after.
- Exact gas amountR134a or R1234yf per the label, with the corresponding compressor oil.
- Performance checkVent temperature verified on delivery.
How often does a car’s air conditioning need regassing?
A healthy circuit loses a little gas naturally and typically needs a regas every 3–5 years. If you need one every summer, you are not short of gas — you have a leak, and the job is finding and repairing it.
The mistake of every June: "regas the air — they did it last year too". If last year’s gas is gone, there is a hole — small, but a hole — and every charge without repairing it is money literally evaporating. Our routine prevents it: vacuum, leak test and, if the circuit does not hold, leak location with a quote before a single gram of gas goes in. The typical leaks: a stone-pitted condenser (in front of the radiator, in the line of fire) and dried-out seals. If the A/C cools but smells musty, the problem is elsewhere: cabin filter and evaporator, solved with cleaning. And if it does not cool at all with the right gas, let us talk about the compressor.
Frequently asked questions
Which gas does my car use?
Cars before ~2017 usually use R134a; modern ones R1234yf. The engine bay label confirms it and we use the corresponding equipment and gas.
Why is "topping up" not enough?
Because without a prior vacuum, air and moisture stay in the circuit, cutting performance and corroding it from inside. And without weighing the charge, the system ends up over- or under-filled: both punish the compressor.
How long does it take?
Around an hour if no leaks appear. With a leak, you get a repair quote and you decide.
Does the A/C use fuel?
Yes, a little — but less than open windows on the motorway. And a properly charged circuit uses less than a half-empty one working overtime.
