What are the symptoms of a bad injector?
Rough idle, juddering, black smoke (diesel), fuel smell, high consumption and, in advanced cases, the engine goes into limp mode. A leaking injector can also damage the catalytic converter or the DPF if ignored.
In practice, half the "broken injectors" that arrive diagnosed by hearsay are something else: a dirty airflow meter, an intake leak or low fuel pressure. That is why we do not change injectors on symptoms, but on measurements. When cleaning is enough, it costs a fraction of replacement; when replacement is needed, we fit OEM-level units coded to your ECU. And if the car is a city diesel, check the particulate filter too: injection and DPF fall ill together.
Frequently asked questions
Do fuel additives work?
As prevention in clean systems, somewhat; as a cure for a leaking injector, no. Real cleaning is done with the injector measured and, if necessary, removed.
How much does it cost to find the faulty injector?
The diagnosis has a fixed price confirmed when you book, deducted from the job if you repair with us.
Is it the same for petrol and diesel?
The principle yes, the technique no: diesel common-rail runs at extreme pressures and its injectors are measured by return flow. We have equipment for both.
Can I keep driving with a failing injector?
Better not: unburnt fuel ends up in the catalytic converter or DPF and turns one medium-sized fault into two big ones.
