What fails the ITV most often?
Lighting, tyres, brakes and emissions account for most failures. Almost all are cheap defects to fix at a garage and expensive in time if they force a second inspection.
Counter advice: do not go to the ITV "hoping it slips through" with the engine light on. For years now the inspection reads the vehicle’s electronics, and an active emissions fault is a failure. Clearing the code the day before does not work either: the systems detect that the ECU was reset without completing its cycles. The right approach is to repair the cause and turn up with a healthy car. The inspection rules are published by the DGT.
