Exhaust pipes and silencers in Barcelona

Exhaust noise, vibration, gas smell or a rusty silencer hanging loose: we repair and replace exhaust sections with quality parts, without changing the whole line when it is not needed.

What does this service include at Tallers Marathon?

Full line inspection, section-by-section replacement, new mounts and gaskets, and a leak check.

  • Inspection on the liftWe locate the exact leak or break: often just one section or a gasket.
  • Replacement by sectionsRear silencer, centre section or flexi: only what is damaged.
  • Mounts and gasketsWorn rubber mounts are the no.1 cause of knocks and premature breaks.
  • Final checkSealing and noise verified after fitting.

Why did the exhaust suddenly get louder?

Usually a rust perforation in the rear silencer or the flexi section, or a gasket that has failed. Beyond the noise, an exhaust leak can push gases into the cabin and skew the engine’s sensors: it is not just about how it sounds.

Workshop trivia: exhausts rust more from the inside than the outside, and more so in short-trip cars — the condensation from cold starts never evaporates and sits pooling in the silencer. That is why a city car can rot an exhaust in half the time of a motorway car. If you hear a metallic knock underneath over speed bumps, it is usually a worn rubber mount: cheap to replace, and it stops the line snapping from fatigue. A leak upstream of the sensor also triggers mixture errors that look like something else: explained on the lambda sensor page.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an exhaust last?

It depends on use: on the motorway, a long time; in the city with short trips, considerably less due to internal condensation. Flexis and mounts usually give out before the straight sections.

Original or compatible exhaust?

We fit both: original parts or quality compatible brands, with the price difference explained. For rear silencers, a branded compatible is usually the sensible choice.

Does a broken exhaust fail the ITV?

Yes, for excessive noise and for leaks. And if the leak is upstream of the lambda sensor, it can also trigger an emissions fault.

Do you fit sports exhausts?

We fit homologated systems with their paperwork. Non-homologated ones mean ITV and insurance problems, and we tell you so just as plainly.
